Ensuring the parallel application of the rules of national and international laws is important in terms of preventing human violations and establishing systems worthy of a human being. In this context, foreigners residing in our country have different rights and obligations. Residence permits within the framework of these rights and obligations make the residence of foreigners in our country based on sound legal ground.
The residence permit according to the Law on Foreigners and International Protection No. 6458 is a document of permission to reside in Turkey. This document, organized by the competent authorities, allows the foreigner the right to live in Turkey for a certain period in a certain place. This license, which is important in terms of ensuring and protecting public order, is regulated at the request of the foreigner after reviewing the necessary papers and fulfilling the conditions of residence in Turkey according to its quality.

Residence permit review
Foreigners who stay longer than the duration of the visa, or the exemption period or more than ninety days must obtain a residence permit. It will soon be possible for foreigners to visit the Turkish consulates in their country of which they are citizens or legal residents in order to obtain a residence permit as stipulated by law. This will be announced later. Until this stage is achieved, foreigners will continue to review the competent authorities in the governorates to obtain a residence permit.

According to the aforementioned law, the application of facilities in residence permit reviews has been canceled, so the review of each foreigner and his residence permit will be organized independently. A foreigner can also review himself to obtain a residence permit, or review through his legal representative or through his attorney representative. However, the administration can, when necessary, request the presence of the foreigner during the review. A provision has been added to Law No. 6735 and to Article 21 of Law No. 6458 stating that intermediary and competent institutions have the right to review in the name of the foreigner to obtain a residence permit. The intermediary and competent institution means the institution that is delegated by the General Directorate, and the specifications of this institution and the framework of its tasks are defined by legal regulations.

  • Residency reviews for the first time or for the purpose of moving

    The foreigner who reviews to obtain a residence permit for the first time or to move through the electronic residence system must come to his appointment on the specified day and hour and review the Directorate of Immigration Management with the required papers. In the stay extension reviews, photocopies must be submitted and certified by the Notary Public Department.

  • Review for extension

    The revisions to extending the residence permit take place before the expiry of the residence period, starting from sixty days before the expiry of the period, meaning that they must take place before the expiry of the residence period in all cases. In order to review the extension of the residence permit, the foreigner will review the electronic residence system, complete the required documents, and then send them to the Directorate of Immigration Management in the governorate by mail within 5 days. During the review of the extension, he must also re-check the information he previously provided and enter it without error. Otherwise, the electronic residence system will not allow reviewing the extension and will not direct the reviewer to the appointment-taking system.

  • Acceptance of a work permit as a residence permit

    According to what is stated in the law, the work residence is used in the place of the residence permit. It means a foreign person who has a work permit and has the right to reside in our country throughout the period of his work permit without obtaining a residence permit.
